By | 2018-10-04T18:15:51+00:00 October 4th, 2018|Inspiration, Uncategorized|Comments Off on Raw Vegan Life — 3 Mindset Shifts for Healthy Change

Crossing Over to Raw Vegan Life It seems like I get the same question (in different forms) almost daily … How can I make a change in my diet and lifestyle when: My family doesn’t support me? I don’t know where to start? My cravings always win over? I can’t afford to eat healthy? I travel all the time? I’m in the middle of a divorce? My health is so bad, it seems like it’s too late? The list goes on. I am not here to say that change is easy, and before I changed my lifestyle and diet to raw vegan, I dealt with many of the issues I listed above. The truth is, I had to hit rock bottom to make the change that brought me to where I am today. Once I hit my breaking point, I had to really think hard about how much control I [...]

Raw Vegan Diet … and life — Overcoming Excuses

By | 2018-08-31T13:58:39+00:00 August 31st, 2018|Inspiration, Raw Vegan Tips|Comments Off on Raw Vegan Diet … and life — Overcoming Excuses

Have you ever wanted something so bad you can almost taste it? You would do anything (so you think) to make it happen — a rain dance, some kind of sacrifice — whatever ... but the universe is working against you? You know what you should be doing, but it feels like, with every effort, there is a new challenge that arises. Well, I hate to break it, this is life, Y'all. (You weren't expecting that, were you?). It turns out the universe has plans for you (and those challenges are lessons). And, in order to finally meet that goal or get that "something,"  you have to jump on board and get connected to what you can control and what you can't. Sometimes, I think of life as a merry-go-round. It looks so beautiful, those decorated horses, all gilded and royal-looking as they glide past you round and round. You want on that [...]

How a raw vegan gets protein for workouts

By | 2018-08-02T15:55:34+00:00 July 31st, 2018|Events, Inspiration, Raw Vegan Tips|Comments Off on How a raw vegan gets protein for workouts

In June, I became the very proud winner of The Carolina Supernatural women’s open figure competition (winner of my group from all age ranges)! I also snagged the first runner-up award in the master's competition (women in their forties and fifties). I was so honored and proud to compete with women of all ages—such gorgeous, powerful ladies (both mentally and physically) and so many memories to match! I am constantly asked how I adapt my protein intake, diet, sleep, cardio, and fat/caloric allowances for workouts and training for competitions. While I want to just snap my fingers and give away the magic potion, I can’t. The truth is, as a raw vegan, I was able to achieve my muscle mass and body sculpting goals because I had that jump start. It was also my consistency in diet, exercise, and sleep that keeps me lean and strong. I already get everything [...]

How a raw vegan eats out

By | 2018-07-06T15:35:30+00:00 July 6th, 2018|Inspiration, More recipes, Raw Vegan Tips|Comments Off on How a raw vegan eats out

You can be Raw Vegan and enjoy an evening out. I hope you’re sitting down for this. I want to tell you something, Y'all: You do not have to fall off the raw vegan wagon every time you go out to eat. You can, in fact, enjoy your meals out if you’re willing to keep a close eye on the menu and open yourself up to the tips I’m about to share ;) At first, one of the biggest challenges for raw vegans is navigating how to dine out and stick to a clean-eating plan for obvious reasons. Temptations are everywhere—from the smells of the kitchen to the comfortable memory of the flavors and textures. Eating, talking, laughing—How will it ever be the same without the spaghetti? Yes, it takes some getting used to. Raw vegan establishments are pretty scarce where I live, so I have to be creative and [...]

4 Benefits of Intermittent Fasting on Raw Vegan

By | 2018-05-24T13:56:10+00:00 May 24th, 2018|Detox, Inspiration, Uncategorized|Comments Off on 4 Benefits of Intermittent Fasting on Raw Vegan

What is Intermittent Fasting? Y’all, don’t run when you see the word “fasting.” I’m going to give you a few reasons to consider intermittent fasting, a type of fasting anyone can do, to improve your overall health. I am not talking about food deprivation. I am not talking about fad cleanses that require you starve yourself. No juicing needed here. I’m talking about consuming the same amount of calories and food that you currently eat, but only eating these calories between a shorter window of time. How does this work? I eat breakfast no earlier than 10 a.m. and I end my meals with dinner at 5:30 p.m. When I do this, any time I spend not eating outside of that window, my body is working to digest the food from earlier and rejuvenate my cells so that I am light and bright for the next day. You give your [...]

The Raw Vegan Plan: Keep it simple

By | 2018-04-02T01:04:53+00:00 April 2nd, 2018|Detox, Inspiration, More recipes, Programs, Smoothies|Comments Off on The Raw Vegan Plan: Keep it simple

Get in the game and get your low fat raw vegan plan going. So many people come to me feeling completely overwhelmed after trying to jump into a vegan or low-fat raw vegan diet without any real support or education. It’s easy to get caught up in the concept: “Well, everything I eat should be whole food and raw, so I will just stick to that—the basics.” I applaud that. And, yes you should stick to the basics—just naked, beautiful raw food. However, life is messy—good or bad—and things always come up that can derail all of your best intentions for maintaining raw vegan. Despite how simple the actual ingredients seem, our lives are a bit complicated. The Vegan Diet: Do Different. Get Different. We all have a default mode. During times of joy, crisis, celebration, mourning—you name it—we have our own coping skills. For some, it’s forgetting to [...]

5 Benefits of Warm Lemon Water

By | 2018-04-02T00:27:55+00:00 April 2nd, 2018|Detox, Inspiration, Uncategorized|Comments Off on 5 Benefits of Warm Lemon Water

Tip it back! It's good for ya. Hey, Hey, Y’all. After all these years as a raw vegan, one of the major constants in my daily routine is to drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning and throughout the day. I firmly believe this ritual has served as the foundation for much of my success in health. Tip back this zesty, nourishing blend of warm water and lemon (I often add 1 to 2 inches of peeled ginger per lemon) first thing in the morning to balance your pH and alkalize your system. This sets the tone for how your body will act and feel for the rest of the day. Here are five major benefits of warm lemon water (but, there are so many more): Warm lemon water supports digestion. Warm lemon water, first thing in the morning, is a must for re-hydration and flushing out [...]

10 Reasons to Go Raw Vegan

By | 2018-03-27T20:48:16+00:00 March 27th, 2018|Detox, Inspiration, Uncategorized|Comments Off on 10 Reasons to Go Raw Vegan

Turning to raw vegan living transformed my life. Hey, Hey, Y’all. Sometimes it’s good to go back to basics. I am reminded daily by my energy levels, love of life, and health that raw vegan living is the foundation of my personal success. I put together a quick list of my favorite reasons to go raw vegan. Here are just a few! I like that you can control all of your ingredients. You know exactly where they come from, how they will charge up your body and boost immunity, and that you’re getting everything you need and nothing you don’t. Additives and all that other junk infused into so-call “food” are eliminated when we work with what grows from the earth. It’s a beautiful thing. More nutrients every time. Cooking food depletes vitamins, destroys digestive enzymes, and damages proteins and fats. You know (with every morsel) that you are [...]

Dealing with Detox

By | 2018-02-15T17:19:47+00:00 January 30th, 2018|Detox, Inspiration, More recipes|Comments Off on Dealing with Detox

Detox—It takes years to accumulate toxins and chemicals; Give your body time to heal. If you're living in the modern world—which you are—You are subject to hundreds of thousands of chemicals and toxins throughout your life. Whole, raw foods are essential to feeling on top of the world and living a truly healthy life; however, when you’re moving from a cheeseburger a day to a plant-based diet (or even if you’re transitioning from vegan to raw), it is realistic to expect you’ll experience some detox symptoms. But don’t let that stop you! Detox, or the fear of it, can keep a lot of people from moving forward with a healthy whole-food raw diet. In so many cases, people begin to cleanse with great intentions, but as symptoms start to rear their ugly heads, they turn back rather than move through to the other side. Our bodies are made up [...]
