5 Benefits of Warm Lemon Water

Tip it back! It’s good for ya.

Hey, Hey, Y’all. After all these years as a raw vegan, one of the major constants in my daily routine is to drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning and throughout the day. I firmly believe this ritual has served as the foundation for much of my success in health. Tip back this zesty, nourishing blend of warm water and lemon (I often add 1 to 2 inches of peeled ginger per lemon) first thing in the morning to balance your pH and alkalize your system. This sets the tone for how your body will act and feel for the rest of the day.

Here are five major benefits of warm lemon water (but, there are so many more):

Warm lemon water supports digestion.

Warm lemon water, first thing in the morning, is a must for re-hydration and flushing out the body. But, this combination more specifically promotes the production of hydrochloric acid and bile secretion, which is required for digestion. If you’ve been sleeping for 6+ hours without any fluids, your body is thirsty and craving nutrients upon waking. Those first 32 ounces of water are actually replenishing your body and helping to flush your digestive system out. So many benefits come next.

Liver, lymph, and kidney detox are all aided by warm lemon water first thing in the morning.

Your body is built with eliminatory systems and we want to assist them in their processes by keeping those “canals” clear for healthy detoxification. Remember, these organs are working even when you’re sleeping, so it’s really a big deal that you drink warm lemon water first thing in the morning and throughout the day.

I’ve also read that drinking lemon water can actually help prevent and treat kidney stones. The water helps rehydrate the body and keeps the urine diluted reducing the risk of kidney stone formation.

Hello, happy healthy immune system!

Who wants to get sick? {crickets chirping}. No one wants to feel sludgy, tired, and flat-out ill. Unfortunately, our standard American diet, the environment, and, sadly, so many of the products we use every day expose us to crap that eventually weakens the immune system and drags us down.

Enter lovely warm lemon water.  Lemons contain Vitamin C and potassium which help boost the immune system, stimulate the adrenals, and have been known to reduce the effects of stress.

Lemons are also an abundant source of citrus bioflavonoid and phytonutrients—both major bonuses to the immune system, not to mention the increases to energy levels. Warm lemon water, first thing in the morning, primes the body so that it can absorb these vitamins effectively.

Get that glowing skin. Just keep the lemon water coming.

Good digestion is the driving force behind healthy clear skin. If your system is clean and primed to receive and absorb lush rich nutrients, your skin can directly reflect this. The Vitamin C in the lemon also supports collagen production for smooth, supple skin.

Hydration + lemons = weight loss

For me, drinking warm water and lemon throughout the day helps quell hunger and cravings. Having water on hand at all times allows me to stick to my plan, eat what I’ve prepared, and maintain my healthy weight. Don’t forget, I lost 86 pounds and the water was a huge factor in flushing out the sludge and hydrating my organs—but it also kept my hunger in check.

If you’re accustomed to juices high in sugar, lemon water helps satisfy your sweet tooth while cutting the calories. Some studies, although I cannot confirm, report that increases in water intake actually speed up the metabolism. I’ll buy it!

They say “water is the source of life” and, well, it really is! So, go grab that water bottle, spin up some lemon (with the pith, course) and tip it on back! Get hydrated.
