Leafy Greens: What's the Big Deal?

Leafy greens are critical for your health. If you’re not eating them, chances are you’re gonna have problems down the line. Let me get right into it. Greens:

  • are micro-nutrient rich.
  • create an alkaline balance in the body vs acidic balance (disease thrives in an acidic environment).
  • are fiber-rich which means they move the toxins out of the body. Honestly y’all, they push ‘em out like a broom!
  • soothe inflammation (where auto-immune disorders come from).
  • combine well (except with melons)
  • are full of protein.

Honestly, the list goes on and on. I have loads of YouTube videos you can check out on the topic if you want more specifics; just use the search bar on my channel. But for now let me just say this: greens are where it’s at! 💪

Greens give you balance, paired with fruit give you longevity, mineral dense, good for your skin, hair, nails, eyesight

Satiation

When you’re eating throughout the day you want to make sure you’re getting all your nutrients, without overdoing it with the calories. Guess what? Greens are the most nutrient dense foods on the planet and they are satiating too. So you can eat less of them, get more nutrients and feel satisfied. Plus, they provide sustained energy that will last you until your next meal, while fruit-only smoothies will provide a quick boost of high flying energy, before you come crashing down again. Fruit and fruit smoothies are great for a high flying experience, but greens give you the long steady flight.

Let me tell you a bit more about that. For instance, chucking some dandelion greens into a fruit smoothie with a variety of fruits will almost quadruple the calcium content, and more than double the iron and magnesium content. And with barely more calories! I explain this experiment in detail in this video if you’re interested in knowing the exact numbers. plus, balance the blood sugar levels in your body. When you do this, you create control over your cravings so you choose the food. The food doesn’t choose you.

And don't forget to rotate! 🔁

You’ve heard the saying “Everything in moderation”. It’s the same with plants! Nature is designed to be rotated.

Leafy greens carry a small amount of toxins called alkaloids that protect plants from being entirely consumed by other animals so as not to become extinct. Isn’t nature smart? Now don’t be afraid! In small quantities they aren’t harmful to us, and they can even strengthen our immune system. But just like animals, it’s not good for us humans to eat too many of these alkaloids over prolonged periods of time.

Not to mention that greens have different nutritional properties, so by rotating them, you’re ensuring you get the best of all of them.

And the other great thing about greens? You can make ‘em even better by sprouting ‘em! Check my blog post I wrote entirely about that.

So there you have it. If you want to feel like the live, vibrant being you were born to be, eat more greens! 🥗.
