In the past, I tried The Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs (several times). If you’re not familiar with the cleanse, it’s been on trend for many years based on its detoxifying properties. It’s made up of maple syrup, lemon juice, water, and cayenne pepper. In theory, this cleanse should help clean out the digestive tract and get things in motion; however, it never really suited me.
I have always had a hard time with blood sugar spikes and dips when I drink anything with high-density sweetness (even juiced fruit) and the maple syrup didn’t help. Plus, it’s refined and heated (which is not my style ;) There was just no way for me to stick to it without feeling unstable and ready to crash.
So, I created an alternative that works great for me!
This cleansing concoction is packed with fiber and pectin for a good healthy colon cleanse that juices up your metabolism and revitalizes your organs. It can be used as a breakfast, snack, or short-term cleanse.
Here’s what you do:
Peel and core 2—3 apples (your choice of apples)
Blend a 1—1.5 c of water
Peel a lemon, cut in half and flick the seeds out, use the pith (the white part).
Blend that up.
You can throw in ginger for joint inflammation. Just be sure to scrub it or peel it. A couple of dashes of cayenne pepper to jack up the metabolism. It’s delicious—sweet and spicy taste. You can also throw in some green powder for extra minerals. I like Vimergy’s organic Wheat Juice and Barley Grass.
Tip that back and mimic a chewing motion. Digestion starts in the mouth, so this helps break up the fiber and prepare it for the journey down the gut.
There you have it! Enjoy and happy cleansing!
