Big Commitments + Self-Love

Making big commitments can be scary. Last month I got married to the love of my life - my best friend - in a small private ceremony in North Carolina. Marriage is a big commitment, just like deciding to start a low-fat raw vegan way of life.

Allow me to give you a little bit of advice on how to succeed on your journey - especially if you are living and eating with non-raw vegans (just as I am now).

I think it’s a great idea to plan ahead what you’re going to have for dinner. It doesn’t have to be elaborate or complicated.

It could be as simple as chopping up a little avocado on a fresh bowl of greens and adding a little seaweed and a squeeze of lemon.

But the point is - you’re thinking ahead about what you need.

You’re planning your day and your food before the world plans it out for you.

You’re showing yourself the respect you deserve to follow through with your health journey by putting your mind and your body first. This is important when you are surrounded by friends and family with different eating habits.

Don’t hesitate to schedule in time for yourself to actually make your raw vegan meal. Blocking out time for meal-making allows you to get what you want out of your day.

We often have these big goals and dreams in mind but we tend to forget that when we don’t actually give ourselves the time to rise to the occasion, we can easily fall back into our old patterns.

Have a system in place where all you have to do is show up for yourself and there’s no way you won’t be successful! You’re worthy of that. You’re worthy of that kind of self-love.

They say self-discipline is the highest form of self-love... It’s true.

If you’re not sure about how to achieve that - as I was in the past, very confused on how to have any self-love at all - start by crowding out the bad habits in your life with small, good habits.

Make small promises to yourself to bring more living, raw foods into your diet and actually do it when the time comes.

These small, healthy habits can turn into long, lasting behaviors.

You will start to become a person - in your own mind - who has integrity, sticking to the promises you make to yourself.

Your world can really change… You just have to commit - decide on how you want to live this life - and proceed with doing just that.

Might I also lovingly suggest that you remind yourself each day of your self-worth? Look in the mirror and remind yourself!
